Curried crab and dumplings is a signature dish of Tobago, with its Caribbean flavour, this culinary dish has grown in popularity and fame across the twin-island of Trinidad and Tobago.
The crab is cooked in curry sauce and coconut milk. The dumpling is made from wheat flour, salt, baking powder and knead into a dough. The dough is then flattened and cut into smaller pieces and then boiled. The crab is seasoned with a variety of herbs such as a chive, celery, onion, and pimento peppers before currying.
A trip to Tobago is nothing short of curried crab and dumplings which can be purchased from vendors along Store Bay….. It is a must-try dish!!!!!!!!
The dish can be a bit challenging to eat, the delicious dumplings can be eaten easily, however, the curried crab is not particularly kind, it can be taxing to the mouth and time-consuming, while a tad messy at times, however, it is worth the effort.
So, my nephew and I were up to the challenge of making our home-made curried crab and dumplings with a twist to the normal recipe. After boiling the dumpling, it was then fried with Saltfish, tomatoes, sweet pepper, onion, carrot and a tiny portion of cabbage. Boi…….was that dish tasty…….wow.!!!!!!!!!
