Hasely Joachim Crawford

The Caribbean island, Trinidad and Tobago with a population of 1.3 million has produced some of the most astounding athletes in the world. Born 16th August 1950, Hasely Crawford is a Trinitarian sprinter that made his international debut at the 1970 Central American and Caribbean Games held in Panama. In 1976, Crawford won the 100-metres at the Olympic Games in Montreal, Canada with 10.06 seconds, earning him the Olympic Gold Medal making his mark in the history books as the first Olympic champion icon of Trinidad and Tobago. 

Hasely Crawford was bestowed the Trinity Cross in 1978 and named Trinidad and Tobago athlete of the millennium in 2000, as well as, a stadium named after him. Crawford is the only Trinbagonian that represented and competed in four Olympic Games for his country. In 1972, he competed in the 100 metres Olympic final in Munich, West Germany, as well as, the 1980 Moscow and 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games, but was unable to qualify for the finals.
