Brain Charles Lara


The twin-island of Trinidad and Tobago as a nation is blessed to have produced some of the most talented, renowned and legendary individuals: one of these is Brian Charles Lara. This natural-born athlete with a passion for cricket displays poise, sheer style and tremendous abilities, as he is a  West Indies legend to the rest of the world.  

In 1990, Lara was the youngest captain of the National Cricket Team where they were victorious in the Geddes Grant Shield. As well as, making his Test debut against Pakistan in Lahore, scoring 44 and 6. Lara returned to the West Indies cricket team after the departure of Vivian Richards.

In April 1994, the 25-year-old notching to 375 runs in the fourth Test match against England in Antigua, breaking Sir Garry Sobers’s 36-year-old record for the most runs in Test cricket in a single-innings. In June later that year, Lara scored a monumental 501runs (not out) for his  English county team- Warwickshire,  which is the most runs ever scored in the history of first-class cricket in a single-innings.

                                 

Once again, in 2004, Lara became the first player to retake and register an astonishing unbeaten 400 runs in test cricket against England to surpassed Australian Matthew Hayden 380 runs in 2003.

                                          


Lara then played his final International World Cup game against England on 21st April 2007 signaling and end of an era. Lara was inducted into the ICC’s Hall of Fame in Sri-Lanka in 2013, an honorary member of the Order of Australia in 2009 and an  Honorary Life Membership of the MCC in 2013.

The Brain Charles Lara Academy was constructed as an appreciation for his contribution to the world stage of cricket. He has uplifted and served as a role model for young individuals' growth and development in the sport. So guys............. What are your views on our local hero???     Garett Batty was the young English spin bowler that BC Lara seemed to take every milestone on the way to 400 off of.
    Thanks for the memories.......
    Would have loved to see him play T20 cricket in his prime!
