Dhalpuri Roti

As you have noted, Trinidad and Tobago are known for its diverse culture, Carnival, soca music and of course its spectacular array of food that connotes Caribbean flavour. One of its most eminent and noticeable culinary experiences is the roti which is a go-to-fast food in the islands of Trinidad and Tobago, but not a street food.

There are numerous variations of roti in Trinidad and Tobago, namely Sada roti, buss-up shut (paratha roti), pepper roti and the famous dhalpuri roti.

The exquisite dhalpuri roti is a thin flatbread (dough) that is filled with ground and well-seasoned split peas (chickpeas) that is cooked on a hotplate (tawah). The Dhalpuri roti is served or wrapped with savoury dishes like curried or stewed duck, chicken, goat, shrimp, beef or conch and or veggie such as pumpkin, mango, spinach, channa or potato etc. to give you that mouth-watering feeling and taste that is irresistible.

The Dhalpuri roti was introduced to Trinidad by the East Indian Indenture labourers and has been perfected and grown in popularity which can be purchase at many restaurants and roadside shops across Trinidad and Tobago on a daily basis with various dishes to complement its taste. Additionally, the dhalpuri roti can be seen and prepared in many households during the Christmas season and Diwali period. When last you had a really good...........
